Dorfold Hall

Last week we visited a brilliant example of bold modern design in a historic context. The new addition to the incredible Grade-I-listed Dorfold Hall in Cheshire recently won RIBA North West’s “Building of the Year 2023” and on Thursday we enjoyed a fascinating tour from the owners Charlie and Candice Roundell, and their architect Zoe Polya-Vitry by the Cheshire Society of Architects.

Sitting on the site of an old stable block, the new design is a series of pitched-roof forms derived from the silhouette of the stable buildings which once stood on the site. We liked the way fragments of the 18th-century façade have been repaired and tastefully integrated into the scheme.
