Welsh Medium Primary

Places to Learn

Set on the edge of the countryside. this new Welsh medium primary school will provide a playful and sustainable new home for Welsh language education in Flintshire. Designed for 240 pupils, the form of the building has been designed to create classrooms that are full of fresh air and natural daylight. with large amounts of glazing designed for solar optimisation and to provide connections into the covered play spaces and the landscape beyond.

The site will also be home to the CUC Building [Childcare Learning and Immersion Centre] that will provide a range of community focused services that complement the offering provided by the new school. Both buildings will be an exemplar of sustainability: the rigorous design methodology and incorporation of modern methods of construction will enable exceptional fabric performance, alongside zero carbon technologies which will lower operational carbon to below zero.

The school will meet and exceed the current Welsh Government embodied carbon targets of 00/C02e/m2 and will use half the carbon of a typical “business as usual” building.
