Summer Social

Last week we had an office Summer Social ‘Tribute Tour’ where we went to view one of our very early projects, and then had some drinks in the sun.

We took a walk across the River Dee and paid tribute to our founder T.M. Lockwood at his Overleigh memorial, then visited one of his buildings the brilliant Old Boys Club at 1 Overleigh Rd, followed by drinks at the wonderful hidden beer garden at the Handbridge pub, overlooking St Mary’s church spire.

Lockwood’s 1 Overleigh Rd is Grade II listed and has many of his characteristic features – half-round Dutch gables, half-round windows, and beautifully carved sandstone. An eclectic composition, drawing influences from the Arts & Crafts movement as well as Renaissance architecture.

Like many of Lockwood’s buildings, the Old Boys Club is now a well-loved Chester landmark, and Hollywood agrees! In October last year it was used as a filming location for the movie “Anemone”, starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Sean Bean.
